Lapping is a machining or manual manufacturing process for smoothing surfaces to reduce surface roughness and cutting off workpiece parts while adhering to tight tolerances. The cutting grain is unbound. By definition, lapping involves cutting with loose grains distributed in a paste or liquid, known as the lapping mixture.
